Provisional mining ban in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 7 (MExN): The Nagaland State Cabinet today resolved to ban illegal coal mining across the State of Nagaland and also impose a provisional mining ban on all firms/companies which have been issued with mining licenses with immediate effect.

A press note from the CMO informed that the meeting held in Dimapur on January 7 decided that a Committee headed by the Secretary, Geology and Mining in coordination with the Department of Environment and Forests, and Climate Change, Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), District Administration and Police; and an Inter-Ministerial Team (IMT) should separately examine the issue of coal mining and the resultant damages caused to the environment.

The Committee and the IMT should submit their respective reports to the Government by the end of February, it added.
