Railway protection force rescues minor, apprehends smugglers

Maligaon, September 15 (MExN): During the last week, Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NF Railway rescued minor children, recovered contraband items, apprehended touts and person involved in crime against passengers and also rendered assistance to female passengers.

In a press release, Guneet Kaur, Chief Public Relations Officer, NFR stated that the RPF team of NF Railway rescued three runaway minor boys and girls while conducting checking at different stations over NF Railway during September 9 to 11. The rescued minors were handed over to Railway Childline/legal guardian for their safe custody and necessary action.

During a joint raid and search conducted in Train No. 02346 DN (Saraighat Express special) at New Jalpaiguri station on September 9, RPF/New Jalpaiguri and DRI officials of Siliguri apprehended two persons and recovered 12 pieces gold bars weighing 1992 grams worth about Rs 95.72 lakh from their possession. The apprehended persons along with the recovered articles were taken into custody by DRI/Siliguri for necessary action. RPF also recovered ganja weighing about 22 kgs worth about Rs 2.15 lakh during checking conducted in different trains on September 7 and 8.

Acting on complaints received through Railway Helpline and Rail Madad App during September 7 to 12, RPF conducted search at different stations such as Chaparmukh, Badarpur and New Karimganj and successfully recovered the luggage left behind by the passengers. Later, the recovered luggage was handed over to the owners after proper verification.

While conducting raid and search against touting activities for illegal sale of railway e-tickets, RPF team of NF Railway apprehended five touts and recovered railway e-tickets worth more than Rs 51 thousand during September 8 to 10.

Acting on the complaint received from the victim passengers during September, 7 to 9, RPF apprehended two persons involved in stealing luggage of passengers at Furkating and Guwahati Railway Stations and recovered stolen mobile phones. Later, apprehended persons were handed over to OC/GRP of respective stations.
Also RPF women team also rendered assistance to a woman passenger in labour pain during travelling by train on September 9 at New Jalpaiguri Station.
