In keeping with tradition, the Huntingboots Inc remembered late Elvis Presley at ‘Cosmos Entertainment Hall & Restaurant’ on Thursday, August 17 with Music Task Force Advisor, Dr Nicky Kire as the chief guest. Surprisingly, a host of dignitaries like the Director General of Police, K Kire, MLA Toshipokba, MTF Director Gugs Chishi and his wife Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Lithrongla G Chishi attended the memorial concert.
It was a night of musicals. Various local artists performed the ageless Elvis’ hits like ‘Jail House Rocks’, ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ and the like. The Naga Idol 5.10 finalist Sharyn Chang also mesmerised the audience with her rendition of Elvis’ hit song ‘Unchained Melody’; so did the Naga Idol 5.10 Renbeni Odyou who after presenting a song from her just released album “Essence” performed the Elvis’ song “Fever”. It was a night when Elvis resurrected among the few hundreds of invited fans and guests.
But the attraction of the night was the chief guest, Dr Nicky Kire (who confessed on stage that he is an ardent Elvis fan) presented “Just call me lonesome” and another Elvis hit. Besides, the Hunting Boots Inc also arranged a house choir called ‘Graceland Harmony” comprising of young budding singers in Mokokchung town; they provided the backup vocals for different singers and added much glamour on the stage.
It was also a night of tribute. The Hunting Boots Inc also presented ‘certificate of appreciation’ to two pioneering Clubs of Mokokchung – Seasonal Club and Raising Club of Mokokchung – ‘in acknowledge of their pioneering activities in Mokokchung’.
Interestingly, the ‘Elvis Night’ being organized by Hunting Boots Inc (the organizer of Naga Idol 5.10 Edition) is getting bigger and bigger. “This year’s Elvis Night was by far the biggest event so far,” said I Temsu Jamir, Huntingboots Inc member; the banner on the wall depicting Elvis Presley also had a tag “Nagaland’s Annual Tribute to Elvis Presley”.
Huntingboots Inc members disclosed that they want to make the event bigger and better in the days to come and move forward from Mokokchung to Nagaland and even to other northeastern states. They also disclosed that this kind of event is not only to remember the great King of Rock & Roll but also to encourage young budding singers and provide them a platform to sing and improve their talents.
