The Rongmei community of Kohima today celebrated Chakaan Gaan Ngai 2024 with much pomp and traditional gaiety at Rongmei Community Hall, Nagabazar, Kohima.

Gracing the festival as the guest of honour, Er Kelhousinyü Solo, vice president T. Khel Council, Kohima village, expressed happiness over its close association with Rongmei community for several years together. He thanked them for their helpful attitude towards T. Khel activities on several occasions.
Further, Solo assured to assist them for their welfare and growth in different fields. Highlighting the significance of the festival, Patrick Golmei said that Gaan-ngai is a post harvest festival. This is a festival during which those who died in the previous year are given a ritual farewell or departure. It is a festival for spreading good will, peace and prosperity and preservation of cultural identity.

Patrick thanked T. Khel for their protection and affection towards the community since 1937.
The celebration was chaired by Gaihaungam Kamei while welcome address was delivered by Babu Golmei, chairman Nagabazar Rongmei Development Society. Special number was presented by Jianthailiu Kamei. Pastor Ruokuowhelie Pienyu, Upper Nagabazar Bapist Church and Francis Panmei, catechist RCAK pronounced prayer during the celebration. Vote of thanks was proposed by Thangchapu Rongmei.
The festival was marked by cultural dance, indigenous games, folk song, unity dance, entertainment and Gaan Ngai feast.
