Sangtam organisations to go on phase wise agitation

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 15 (MExN): With the expiry of the last date for fulfillment of the six-point ultimatum submitted to the Nagaland State Government in connection to the February 6 killing, three apex organizations of the Sangtam community has resolved to initiate a phase wise agitation.   United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP), United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) and Akedah Sangtam Thsingmujanglaru (AST) in a joint press statement on Monday said the phase wise agitation would be initiated till the perpetrators are arrested and booked under law by the State Government. The resolve was made on February 15 in a general meeting following the failure of the State Government to fulfill their set of demands.   For safety of both communities and to minimize misunderstanding, the three organisations resolved that till the time the present imbroglio is settled, the “movement of Yimchunger within Sangtam jurisdiction will be restricted” with immediate effect. However, sub-tribes are exempted from the preview of the restriction, it added.

The organisations also regretted and expressed sympathy with the affected families belonging to sub-tribe: Chir, Makury, Longfur, Phelungru Shu under Pungro sub-division and Tikhir of Shamator town by the “unprecedented action of the unruly mob created post the killing of the couple.”   The Nagaland State government will be held responsible for any untoward incident that may occur in the course of the phase wise agitation, the joint press statement also cautioned.
