New Delhi/Dimapur, October 5 (MExN): The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on October 5 two writ petitions challenging decisions of the Election Commission of India (ECI) relating to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, including allegations that several decisions were taken without the concurrence of the other two Election Commissioners.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana will hear the petitions.
The petitions have been filed against Chief Election Commissioner Kumar amid claims that around 14 decisions concerning various SIR measures were taken in the name of the ECI despite objections recorded by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.
As per the PTI agency, the petitioners have reportedly cited records showing that the two Election Commissioners raised at least 14 objections between October 2025 and August 2026 concerning different steps related to the SIR exercise.
Accordingly, the petitions seek judicial scrutiny of the ECI’s decision-making process, including examination of its records and quashing of the 14 allegedly unilateral decisions.
They also seek interim relief against the CEC and an independent judicial inquiry or SIT headed by a retired Supreme Court judge, assisted by cybersecurity and IT experts.
The Supreme Court’s October 5 cause list shows the two petitions listed for fresh admission before a three-judge Bench headed by the CJI, with one listed as W.P.(C) No. 1246/2026 at Court No. 22 and the other as W.P.(Crl.) No. 401/2026 at Court No. 23.
