Dimapur, October 4 (MExN): The Red Ribbon Club of Salesian College of Higher Education (SCHE), Dimapur, organised an awareness-cum-voluntary blood donation camp on October 3 to commemorate National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, observed on October 1.
The camp was organised in collaboration with the Blood Centre of District Hospital Dimapur and the Voluntary Blood Donors Association Nagaland, on the theme “Small Action, Great Impact: Youth for Blood Donation”.
Around 40 students volunteered to donate blood during the camp. SCHE has been associated with the District Blood Centre, Dimapur, since 2011.
Kholie Dolf, former president of the Voluntary Blood Donors Association Nagaland and a first-aid trainer, spoke on the importance of voluntary blood donation.
Dolf said he marks his birthday every year by donating blood and emphasised that blood cannot be manufactured despite advances in medical science.
“In spite of humanity's advance in knowledge, blood cannot be manufactured,” he said, adding that voluntary blood donation was the only means of saving lives during shortages and surgical emergencies.
Dr Rongsenmar Lkr, in-charge of the Blood Centre at District Hospital Dimapur, led an interactive session with the students. He said donors whose blood screening revealed serious illnesses were provided counselling and assistance in accessing treatment.
The programme began with a welcome address by Hilika, a first-semester student, while Kewidibo, a third-semester student, proposed the vote of thanks.
