Phek, September 14 (MExN): Phek Deputy Commissioner Razouvolie Dozo, on Tuesday officially launched the Smoke-Free District Headquarter Campaign for Phek in the presence of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) members.
Earlier in the day, District Nodal Officer (DNO) for the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) Dr Nichukholie Vupru apprised the members on the activities and structure of the District Tobacco Control Cell and relevant sections of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 or COTPA, 2003, a press release from the District Media Officer, NHM, Phek informed.
Organized by the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), the campaign aims to make every district headquarter ‘Smoke-Free’ and strengthen the enforcement of Section 4, COTPA 2003. The campaign will also create awareness about the hazards of second-hand smoke and ways to protect non-smokers from second-hand smoke which is a concern for many health issues.
With the launching of the campaign the DTCC will adopt sensitization of various department heads, advocacy programmes for schools, churches, NGOs & CSO enforcement drive by the District Anti-Tobacco squad and IEC activities at strategic places in the town, the release stated. It was impressed upon the members to act in their various capacities to make the district headquarter a safer place for all, it added.
