Tetso College students pose with elderly persons during a visit to Old Age Home at Tenyiphe 1, Chümoukedima, on October 3.
Chümoukedima, October 5 (MExN): The Department of Education, Tetso College, Sovima, organised a visit to the CABWF (Chümoukedima Area Baptist Women Fellowship) Old Age Home at Tenyiphe 1, Chümoukedima, on October 3 to observe the International Day of Older Persons and as part of its Community Engagement Programme.
The programme aimed to help students understand the importance of community service and encourage reflective learning through direct exposure to real-life community situations.
During the visit, students interacted with elderly residents and gained a deeper understanding of their experiences and everyday lives. Through direct interaction and observation, they were encouraged to appreciate the importance of respecting and caring for senior citizens.
The programme also highlighted that community service extends beyond providing material assistance and includes offering companionship, emotional support and a sense of belonging.
The visit served as a platform for experiential and reflective learning, enabling students to connect classroom learning with real-life community situations.
The interaction encouraged students to reflect on their responsibilities towards society and the importance of contributing positively to the well-being of others. It also sought to foster values such as kindness, patience, empathy, respect and cooperation among the students.
The Department of Education said the visit was a meaningful and enriching experience that promoted the spirit of community engagement and provided students with valuable exposure beyond the classroom.
The programme further encouraged students to become socially aware and responsible individuals while reinforcing the importance of serving and caring for the community.
