Nagaland is set to make another mark on the global film stage with the premiere of Theja Rio's latest creation, 'Ade (On A Sunday),' at the prestigious International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR) in the Netherlands in January 2024.

The short film, for which Rio serves as both writer and director, secured a spot in the official selection of IFFR 2024, chosen from among thousands of submissions.

He collaborated with Dan Pusa and Nancy Nisa Beso to produce 'Ade.'

The film features a cast of first-time actors, including Visalie Kuotsu, Kedo Kuotsu, Neithongunuo Sorhie, and Razouselhou Rio.

Set in 2002, 'Ade' follows the adventures of eight-year-old Ade and his older friend Abu, who opt for a day of escapades over Sunday school.

The innocent fun gradually leads them into an unplanned journey, marking their first profound encounter with the complexities of adulthood, offering fresh and engaging performances, informed the director-writer in a media release.

The short film was captured on the classic medium of 16mm film and shot in Pfuchama village near Kohima, with production taking place in January of this year.

According to the release, the creation was a global effort, featuring a talented crew from around the world, including Natdanai Ham Naksuwan (Thailand) handling cinematography and Yiwei Pu (China) editing the film.

The film's auditory landscape was crafted by composer Nir Perlman (Israel), while Liam Sharpe (United Kingdom) served as the sound designer.

'Ade' is scheduled to be unveiled between January 25 and January 28, 2024.

Rio's previous short film, 'Angh,' premiered at the Clermont Ferrand International Film Festival in 2021 and subsequently won accolades at over 50 film festivals worldwide, including renowned events like Palm Springs and the Melbourne International Film Festival.

The IFFR is renowned for being one of the most significant and industry-centric film festivals globally and has played a pivotal role in launching the careers of illustrious filmmakers like Bong Joon Ho, known for 'Parasite,' and Christopher Nolan, famed for 'Inception' and 'Oppenheimer,' among others, the release stated.

The festival's reputation for spotlighting groundbreaking talent makes it an ideal platform for the international debut of this film, it added.

Under the direction of Festival Director Vanja Kaludjercic from Croatia, IFFR 2024 is slated to take place from January 25 to February 4, 2024.
