Training on improved orchard management practices

Mokokchung, September 28 (MExN): One day training programme on improved orchard management practices was conducted at Farm School on Mandarin Orange at Kupza village on September 28, under Ongpangkong North Block, ATMA, Mokokchung.  

Resource person of the programme, Mapusenla, HEA, Dept of Horticulture, spoke about the various aspects on orange orchard management practices such as multiplication of planting materials from seeds, budding/grafting, proper site selection and systematic planting, intercropping of mandarin orange with leguminous crops such as peas, soybean, French bean etc, to improve the soil fertility, identification of major pest and diseases and its management practices, preparation of Bordeaux paste and mixture and its application to prevent against pest and diseases.  

BTT member Sentiyangba, AHO, Horticulture Dept, also trained the participants on canopy management through proper spacing and pruning. Training programme was followed by interactive session where various field related problems where put forth by the farmers and discussed. Hand secateurs were distributed to all the participants by ATMA Ongpangkong North. Planting materials, neem oil and winter vegetable seeds were also distributed to the trainees by the Dept of Horticulture.  

Altogether 23 orange farmers attended the training programme.
