KOHIMA, DEC 11 (DIPR): Inaugurating a new school building for GPS Jotsoma (lower) Kohima Deputy Commissioner and Chairman DMA, SSA, R Ramakrishnan IAS called for transparency in availing SSA schemes.
Speaking at the occasion the Deputy Commissioner expressed satisfaction on the completion of the new school building which has been built under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). He said that the Government has a number of schemes and Village Education Committees (VECs) should work in close cooperation with the Government for maximum benefit. He further expressed happiness that the GPS is getting a new school building after its inauguration way back in 1947.
The Deputy Commissioner also said that SSA will end by the year 2010 and so facilities have to be availed and utilized in a transparent manner. Stating that the main objective of the SSA is to enroll more students, the Deputy Commissioner urged the parents and the teachers to be dedicated and work towards more enrollments in the school.
Giving a brief presentation on SSA, District Education Officer-and-District Project Coordinator, DMA, SSA, Kohima, Phutoli L Jamir said that SSA is a funding agency which came about through communitization. She said that through communitization, power has been transferred to the people by the Government so that they can work together for the betterment of schools. She said that funds should be utilized in a transparent manner and the VEC should ensure smooth conduct of all the works.
Mission Director, State Mission Authority, SSA, Anga Thou who also spoke on the occasion said that although literacy rate is high in the state, enrollment in the Government schools is not satisfactory. She said that the Government teachers are better paid than the private school teachers and therefore she urged the teachers to be sincere in moulding the students and be at par with the private schools. EAC, Sechü, Elizabeth also said that since quality education starts at the primary level, the teachers should be dedicated towards their duties.
A report on building construction was given by Teacher in-charge, Kekoyato Nisa. Welcome address was delivered by Chairman, Village Council, Vizoto Nagi while the vote of thanks was offered by VEC Secretary, Pekruyabi Rino.
