Tuensang District Court Complex inaugurated

'Well-equipped judicial infrastructure crucial for ensuring speedy trial'

In a momentous event for the residents of Tuensang district, the newly constructed District Court Complex was inaugurated today by Chief Justice (Acting) Lanusungkum Jamir of the Gauhati High Court, The High Court of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram & Arunachal Pradesh.

The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of Justice Kakheto Sema, Judge Gauhati High Court, R Ramakrishnan, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Law & Justice, Government of Nagaland, and TN Mannen, IAS (Retd), MLA & Advisor for the Department of Law & Justice and Land Revenue.

In his inaugural address, Justice Lanusungkum Jamir emphasised the crucial role of a well-equipped judicial infrastructure in reducing case backlogs and ensuring speedy trial. He appreciated the cooperation of the government and the involvement of all stakeholders in enhancing the justice delivery system in the state.

A DIPR report added that Justice Jamir addressed on the faith of the public in the judiciary system where they can redress their legitimate grievances. ‘Some of factors involve like pendency of Judiciary system, mandate to the speedy trial can be fulfilled, adequacy of judicial infrastructures is prerequisite for reduction pendency and back log of cases involve, so as to sustain the better justice delivery system,’ he said. 

Justice Jamir also acknowledged the proactive steps taken following the Chief Justices Conference in 2016. It was decided that the Chief Justice must adopt proactive steps to identify the judiciary infrastructures, ensure timely completion of the projects of the court complexes, constitute a committee to monitor the project timely completions and to ascertain the coordination between the district official and decision authority of the state government for the development of the judicial infrastructures, he highlighted. 

Jamir also appreciated the support and cooperation of the government and involvement of every stakeholder for a robust justice delivery system in our state.

TN Mannen, IAS (Retd), MLA & Advisor in his address stressed the need to revamp customary law, cautioning that it might become irrelevant without improvement.

Several prominent figures in the legal and administrative spheres shared their thoughts during the ceremony. Chuba Yimchunger, President, Bar Association, Tuensang, Lithrongla T Rutsa, NCS, Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang, R Ramakrishnan, Principal Secretary delivered short speeches. 

Earlier, the inauguration ceremony was conducted at the new complex and was moderated by Kumdilong Kessen, NJS, Civil Judge (Sr Division) Chief Judicial Magistrate, Longleng, Civil Judge (Sr Division) JMFC, Tuensang (Additional Charge).

The event commenced with an invocation by L Ongmang, Pastor, Yungkük Baptist Church Tuensang town, followed by a special song from Lirili and Repetel. N Longshithung Ezung, NJS, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Tuensang, delivered the welcome address.

In the technical report presented by Er Sungtiba Amer, Assistant Chief Engineer, CAWD, Nagaland, it was highlighted that the total estimated cost of the project was Rs 643.97 lakh, with the total project cost, including additional work, amounting to Rs 672.59 lakh.

The construction, carried out by Saramati Construction, began in April 2017 and was completed in November 2023. The new building is a G+6 storied RCC structure with a total Plinth Area of 18,578 sq.ft.

Yarenjungla Longkumer, NJS, Secretary (Judicial), Department of Law & Justice, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude for the support and cooperation that led to the successful completion of the project.
