Dimapur, Nov 22 (MExN): A two-day VDB products exhibition and sale organized by the Rural Development Block and VDB Union Dhansiripar kick-started today with Toshi Aier IAS, Principal Secretary RD and Works and Housing Nagaland, as the chief guest here at the Hotel Saramati complex.
Speaking at the occasion, Toshi Aier asked the VDB union of Dhansiripar to carry out such exhibitions on a sustained basis and encouraged that the event be organized for a ‘second and a third time since it was the first.’
Aier also said that Dhansiripar area has good ‘potential’ to become a prosperous area as it was close to the commercial city of Dimapur. He urged the people of the area to take advantage of the ‘potential’ and work for their own welfare.
Aier lamented that Nagaland, unfortunately, was a consumer state and that “we are importing goods from other states having no scope of exporting it.” He lamented the fact that Naga entrepreneurs “do not know about the pricing of their products” and said that indigenous products need to be priced at a lower rate than that of others in order to compete with goods coming from other places.
The President of the VDB Union Dhansiripar Block while delivering his speech put forward two demands: one for construction of a VDB office building and another for a VDB marketing complex in the Dhansiripar area, to which the chief guest promised that the office building would be started from the next year itself while the marketing complex would be discussed in the government.
V Kashiho Sangtam BDO RD Block, Dhansiripar chaired the inaugural programme while short speeches were delivered by Visasolie L Houngu PD DRDA, Dimapur and H Sumi, GB.
Around nineteen stalls have been set up at the Hotel Saramati complex, selling various indigenous items ranging from exquisite handicrafts and handlooms to green vegetables and livestock. The exhibition will conclude on the 23rd.
