Jalukie, January 10 (MExN): The Old Jalukie Village Shifting Day Memorial Volleyball Tournament 2024 was officially declared open today by Azeu Namcyn Hau, OSD to Deputy Chief Minister TZ Zeliang, at Old Jalukie Village.
Speaking on the occasion, Hau highlighted that the people of Old Jalukie Village, the ancestral landowners of 13 off-shoot villages and 1 town under Peren District, are known for their generosity and large-heartedness, leading to the peaceful establishment of many villages within its jurisdiction.
Recalling the relocation of Old Jalukie Village to the current site in 1984, he added, "To me, this tournament is about remembering our history through sports, which is a unique event in itself."
According to a press release from the organiser, the OSD also opined that there should be competition for both males and females and expressed optimism that the tournament would grow larger, with more villages, particularly off-shoot villages, participating in honour of Old Jalukie ancestral Village in the near future.
Hau was accompanied by Sinilo Rio, Personal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, and a host of NDPP Party leaders from the NDPP Peren Region, the release said.
Earlier, the inaugural program began with the hoisting of the tournament flag by Hau, while Village Council Chairman Hainkieng Hiekha delivered the welcome address. The oath-taking ceremony was presided over by Adaube Mpom, Games & Sports Secretary, Old Jalukie Youth Organisation.
