Dimapur, June 29 (MExN): A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder and subsequent sexual assault of his cousin, a 28-year-old woman, at Master Colony, Naharbari, Dimapur.
A press release from the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur informed that the Women Police Station received telephonic information from East Police Station at around 10:30 am on June 28 that a woman had been found dead at Master Colony, Naharbari.
A police team rushed to the scene and conducted an inquest. The deceased was identified as Roshni (28), daughter of Fazar Ali of Kandhulimari under Juria Police Station in Assam's Nagaon district.
She was residing at Master Colony, Naharbari, Ward-10, Lane-1, Dimapur. After completion of legal formalities, the body was shifted to the District Hospital Dimapur morgue for post-mortem examination.
During the preliminary investigation, police found that the deceased's two minor daughters and her minor brother were missing from the house. The investigating team traced the three children at Diphupar B village, 5th Mile, Chümoukedima. They were rescued, medically examined, and handed over to Childline, while the Child Welfare Committee was informed as per protocol.
Police said a suspect, Salim Ali (27) was brought to the police station for questioning.
Based on evidence collected during the investigation, the suspect was arrested in connection with the alleged murder and subsequent sexual assault of the deceased, who was his cousin.
A case has been registered at the Women Police Station, Dimapur, and further investigation is underway, the police stated.
