Mokokchung, October 23 (MExN): A persistent Zonipang Sporting Association triumphed over a gritty Youth Association Merepkong to lift the 25th MDFA Trophy 2017 at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex today.
The in-form Zonipang produced yet another display of attacking football to blank Marepkong 3-0. Strong offence and defence was what marked the game as Zonipang thwarted several inroads from Marepkong and engineering counter attacks taking advantage of breaches in the defense line.
Imlitoshi produced a spectacular goal going past the Marepkong defence to fire home the first goal from way outside the D-Box.
The second goal came in the 60th minute, this time Onen taking advantage of yet another gap in the Marepkong defense. Midfielder Soshri wrapped up with the third.
The champions won a cash award of Rs. 2 lakh alongwith the prestigious trophy. The runners-up received Rs. 1 lakh.
