Kiphire, October 6 (MExN): The second edition of ‘Mungri’, a five-day annual college event at Zisaji Presidency College (ZPC) Kiphire, commenced on October 6 with Kiphire Superintendent of Police, Chinese Chakhesang, gracing the inaugural programme as the Special Guest.
In his opening remarks, ZPC Principal Dr Phyobenthung explained the significance of the event’s title, noting that ‘Mungri’ is derived from the Sangtam dialect, meaning a “confluence” or coming together, integrating cultural, literary and sports activities.
Declaring Mungri 2026 open, SP Chakhesang advised students to cultivate healthy habits, develop practical skills, stay legally and digitally informed, and utilise public safety services.
He further encouraged students to manage their time wisely while relying on discipline and perseverance to achieve their goals.
A key highlight of the inaugural programme was the recognition of academic excellence, with Governor’s Meritorious Awards for the 2025–26 academic session presented to Setsala (English Department) and Rangcholi (Political Science Department).
Setsala also received the Helen Jamir Award for the English Department.
Nagaland University Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) toppers Nitsavi A. Sumi (3rd rank in History) and Ridangla P. Sangtam (4th rank in Political Science) were also felicitated.
Besides a musical prelude of Heal the World at the beginning, the event also featured a rendition of Wonderful World by the assistant professors and a traditional folk song performed by the Hilly Troupe.
The second day of the fest will be observed as Literary Day, followed by three days dedicated to various sporting events, informed a press release from the ZPC.
