195 candidates to contest polls

MP Neiphiu Rio elected unopposed  

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 12 (MExN): The state election commission today informed that the final number of candidates to contest in the upcoming polls is 195.  

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha, Neiphiu Rio was meanwhile elected unopposed from the Norther Angami II Assembly Constituency. His only opponent Chupfuo Angami, withdrew his candidature today. It may be noted that Rio is also the Chief Ministerial candidate form the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), which has entered into a pre poll alliance with the BJP.  

During an NDPP election campaign programme at Chiechama today, the MP had stated: “I am extremely happy and grateful to my people that I had been made uncontested.”  

A total of 32 candidates have withdrawn their nominations for the upcoming Nagaland State Assembly polls. February 12 was the last day for withdrawal of candidatures. The state election commission informed that the number of candidates found invalid was 29.  

The final number of candidates for each party are as follows: NPF- 58, NDPP-39, BJP-20, INC-18, NPP-25, JD(U)-13, NCP-6, AAP-3, LJP-2 and independents -11.
