5 Nagas arrested in Assam car theft case

DIMAPUR, MARCH 30 (MExN): A group of five Naga youths were arrested in Golaghat on March 30 in connection to a car theft case registered in Morigaon Police Station. The five, identified as Bito Katty, Kimiyato Swu, Aboto Zhimo, Nagato Awomi and Hekato Sumi by the Assam Police, were allegedly in Golaghat to buy a car stolen from Morigaon when the arrest occurred.

According to the Superintendent of Police, Morigaon, Swapnaneel Deka, the arrest of the five preceded the arrest of three others – Naba Das, Ashadul Rahman and Rana Bhatta on March 29 in Morigaon.

Terming it as an “inter-state network,” Deka said that the three admitted to stealing the car and were planning to sell it in Golaghat to contacts from Nagaland. He said that the three led the Morigaon police to Golaghat where the buyers were arrested.
