‘Mysterious predators’ are dogs, claims Manipur Govt

Newmai News Network Imphal | December 6   The State Government of Manipur claimed that the investigation reports on the series of mysterious killings of domestic animals and fowls in the State since October indicated that the attacks were done by dogs.   Speaking to media persons tonight, Manipur Forest minister, Th Shyamkumar said that dogs were responsible for the killings of domestic livestock.   According to the minister, scientists who came from Wildlife Institute of India (WII),  Dehradun  installed cameras in various areas and the results showed that dogs were responsible for the killings of ducks, chicken and domestic animals.   Since October this year, nearly 150 domestic animals including pigs, ducks and chicken have been allegedly killed by some predators according to a report. The report added that nearly 40 incidents have been reported from the districts of Churachandpur, Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching and Kangpokpokpi.   However, questions cropped up as to why the dogs started attacking domestic animals and fowls abruptly this winter as well as it is unlikely to find in record such large scale attacks in the past. The question of two cows killed in Kangpokpi district also raises further question.
