Nagaland MLA T Torechu’s demise mourned

Kohima, December 16 (MExN): Various political leaders and public organisations have mourned the demise of T Torechu, senior Naga People’s Front (NPF) leader and MLA, 60 Pungro Kiphire Assembly Constituency, who passed away in Dimapur on December 16. 

NLA Speaker: NLA Deputy Speaker & Speaker-In-Charge Sharingain Longkumer in a message on his own behalf and on behalf of the Members of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly conveyed heartfelt condolences to his wife Kiusushi, children and family member. “Torechu was a dynamic public leader who dedicated his life for the welfare of the Naga people. In his death the State has lost a committed leader which will be felt greatly by the Naga people in general and the Yimchungrü tribe in particular,” it stated. 

Deputy CM: The Dy CM and BLP leader Y Patton expressed his deep anguish over the untimely demise of his friend and long associated colleague Torechu. “He was a man of profound gentleman, simple, respectable and lovable in the eyes of the people,” a message issued by the Media Cell, Dy CMO said while adding, “his immense contributions towards the Naga society during his stint as a Legislator will be fondly remembered.” Patton on behalf of the BJP legislators extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and pray that the Almighty grant them strength to bear the loss in fortitude. He also prayed that the departed soul rest in eternal peace.

Minister Kashiho Sangtam: The Minister of Soil & Water Conservation, Geology & Mining, V Kashiho Sangtam in a condolence message cherished that he had the fortune of meeting and having interaction with late Torechu on several occasions in official functions as well as in social gatherings. “I found him to be a true leader who always had real concern for his people and always worked to improve their condition,” he stated. 

TR Zeliang: Opposition leader and NPF legislature wing leader, TR Zeliang in a condolence message to Kiusushi Torechu, wife of late Torechu expressed grief on the demise of his colleague. “Apart from being sincere, honest and upright,” Zeliang remembered him as “a man of his word whose service and contributions to the Naga people will be ever remembered. He was a tall leader who understood the pain and suffering of his constituency people and the Naga people in general. He was also a man of few words but remained committed to what he said.”

As an NPF MLA, late Torechu shouldered his responsibility with grace and humility and during his journey with the party, he had contributed towards its betterment in several ways, Zeliang said, while extending his deepest condolences and prayer that God grant peace and solace to all the bereaved family members, relatives, friends, colleagues and all his near and dear ones.

Advisor CM Chang: Expressing deep sadness on the untimely demise of T Torechu, Advisor for Justice, Law, Environment & Climate Change, CM Chang said that he was always like a brother and family friend, and his demise is a great loss for all and will be deeply missed. “I pray that God will provide comfort and strength to all his near and dear ones during this difficult time,” he added. 

MP Tokheho: The Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland, Tokheho Yepthomi expressed deep shock on the passing away of late Torechu. “I have had the privilege of knowing him for many years as colleagues and friends in the Nagaland legislative assembly. He worked for his people and Nagaland with all sincerity and dedication. During his illness also he continued to serve the people of Nagaland. We have lost a good person in him,” Yepthomi stated in his condolence message. He also conveyed deepest sympathies to his family. 

NPF President: Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu, President of the NPF on his behalf and on behalf of the party rank and file expressed deep pain over the demise of one of its senior most legislators, Torechu.

“Late Torechu is not only a true and capable politician but was an active student leader, a teacher and a public earlier in his life who is always committed towards his people and the Naga people in general. He represents the people in Nagaland Legislative Assembly for the last 17 years and during his leadership, had brought many changes and development and he can be best describe as a man of integrity towards the development of the society. Though, he is no more with us, his name will always be on record and his demise is a great loss to the NPF family,” Dr Shürhozelie stated.

 The NPF party expressed its deepest condolences to his family, his constituency and prays to Almighty to grant solace and comfort to all his near and dear ones.

State BJP Unit President: The Nagaland State BJP Unit President and Minister of Higher & Technical Education & Tribal Affairs Temjen Imna Along in a condolence message said that late Torechu was a leader whose benevolent nature has captivated the hearts of many who are fortunate to have been associated with him during his lifetime. The Minister recollected that late Torechu’s association with the State BJP dated back to the year 2003. “In this moment of intense grief and sorrow, I along with all the ranks and files of Nagaland State BJP karyakatas, convey my deepest condolence to the bereaved family members and pray for the dearly departed soul to rest in eternal peace,” he added. 

NPF Minority Wing: President NPF Minority Wing Central, Bishnu Bhattacharjee on behalf of all the members and Minority Community have extended deepest condolence on the sudden demise of late Torechu to the bereaved family members and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace. Describing late Torechu a strong and dynamic political leader, the  condolence message issued by Prem Meitei, General Secretary, NPF Minority Wing Central, said that “he will be remembered in the midst of NPF party worker and people of Nagaland for his immense contribution.”

YTC: The Yimchungrü Tribal Council (YTC) has deeply mourned the demise of Torechu who had served the Council as Joint Secretary and General Secretary and was also the founding member of TMPO/ENPO. He also served as Social and Cultural Secretary of Yimchungrü Akherü Arihako (YAA).” Late Torechu was the pioneer and the torchbearer of the people of Yimchungrü. His selfless sacrifices and contributions for the welfare of the people during his lifetime will always be remembered,” YTC stated while conveying its deepest condolences and sympathies to the bereaved family members and near and dear ones at this time of pain and grief. “May the Almighty God grants solace and eternal peace to the departed soul,” stated the message issued by YTC President, Throngso, and General Secretary Laji Luyanba. 

DENSU: Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students Union (DENSU), on the demise of late Torechu expressed regret on the loss of a leader. The Union said that late Torechu was one of the most sincere, honest, and kind-hearted persons, who also had a vision for younger generation. The DENSU also convey heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members at this grief hour, stated the message issued by DENSU, Vice President, A Nathan Khiamniungan.

ANTA Pungro Unit: The All Nagaland Taxi Association, Pungro Unit in a condolence message stated that late Torechu was a man of patience, and dedicated his life for the welfare of the people. His passing away will be a great loss not only for Yimchunger but Nagas as a whole. He will always be remembered as our greatest leader, stated association in a condolence note issued by its President, Chisukiu Kvz. It also extended heartfelt condolence to the family members and relatives.
