Lt Col Kharsing Kaping of the 121 (TA) Garhwal Rifles with the Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) football team after they emerged as champions at the 4th Patkai Trophy 2026 Inter-Institutional Championship in Chümoukedima.
Chümoukedima, October 11 (MExN): The three-day 4th Patkai Trophy 2026 Inter-Institutional Championship, held under the theme “Celebrating Talents,” concluded at Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), Chümoukedima-Seithekema, on October 10. Lt Col Kharsing Kaping of the 121 (TA) Garhwal Rifles attended the closing ceremony as guest of honour.
The championship featured five sporting disciplines -football, volleyball, basketball, badminton and tug-of-war, with 39 institutions participating, including three from outside Nagaland. Patkai Christian College won the football title, defeating St Xavier College, which finished runners-up.
In volleyball, St Joseph College, Jakhama, won both the men’s and women’s titles. Fazl Ali College finished runners-up in the men’s category, while Don Bosco College, Kohima, was runner-up in the women’s category.
St Joseph University won the women’s basketball title, with Don Bosco College, Kohima, finishing second. Assam Downtown University claimed the men’s basketball championship, followed by St Joseph College, Jakhama.
In badminton, Bovi K Chishi of Tetso College won the men’s singles title, while Pratiksha Joshi of Assam Downtown University won the women’s singles. Tetso College also won the men’s doubles title through Bovi K Chishi and Masenwangbo. Assam Downtown University’s Tanisha Chetia and Pratiksha Joshi won the women’s doubles.
St Joseph University won the tug-of-war competition, with Patkai Christian College finishing runners-up.
Individual football awards went to Tsuvoto Nienu of St Joseph University for the Golden Boot, Akiak of St Xavier College for the Golden Ball, and Pavziulungbe of St Xavier College for the Golden Glove.
Kekousatuo Barnabas Rulhos of St Joseph College, Jakhama, was named the most valuable player in men’s volleyball, while Nuili Sheqi of Don Bosco College, Kohima, received the award in women’s volleyball. Dizelhou Nuo Meru of St Joseph University was named the most valuable player in women’s basketball.
Lt Col Kaping in his address recalled his time as a student at Patkai Christian College and paid tribute to former principal Rev Dr Tuisem A Shishak, whom he described as a visionary and spiritual leader.
The closing ceremony included a special number by Guidinliu Gangmei, a fifth-semester BA student. Wetshete Thopi, convener and dean of students, delivered the vote of thanks, while Vice-Principal Dr Renchumi K Kuotsu led the closing prayer.
