Kohima | April 3

The Konyak community of the state capital Kohima under the aegis of Konyak Union Kohima (KUK) today celebrated its premier festival Aoleang at The Naga Heritage Village, Kisama.

The celebration witnessed colourful cultural performances from Longchang unit, Tobu unit, Aboi unit, Chen unit, Wakching unit and Mon circle.

Nagaland’s Fire & Emergency Service, SIRD and Relief & Rehabilitation Advisor Pohwang Konyak graced the occasion as the special guest.

KUK president Dr W Phola delivered welcome address while significance of Aoleang was given by Rev T W Yamyap, State Chaplain Nagaland. Vote of thanks was proposed by KUK general secretary Khongjah.

The celebration concluded with Aoleang feast.

Aoleang is the premier festival of the Konyak Nagas. It is celebrated from April 1 to 6. Aoleang celebrations also mark the end of the current year and welcome the beginning of the New Year with the spring season.

It is the time to pray for a bountiful harvest of crops. Each day of the festival has its own significance, custom rituals and merry making. It is a festival of sharing and forging ahead with renewed vigor into the coming year.
