The Beauty & Aesthetics Society of Nagaland (BASN) launched “Queens for a cause’ project under the brand “One Sisterhood. Many Voice. One Purpose” at Symphony Café, Kohima on August 13.
Established in 1991, BASN has been instrumental in promoting beauty with purpose by empowering young women through confidence, leadership and social responsibility.
As the organizer of Miss Nagaland, BASN has, over the years, created a platform that celebrates not only beauty but also intelligence, character, and the potential to become agents of positive change.
With each passing year, BASN has crowned a new generation of Miss Nagaland titleholders and runners-up who have gone on to become inspiring role models within their communities. Throughout their reign, each queen undertakes advocacy initiatives under the philosophy of “Beauty with a Purpose,” BSAN stated.
However, the impact of a queen should not end when she passes on the crown- the title should represent a lifelong commitment to leadership, compassion and public service. Recognising this, BASN has launched “Queens for a Cause”- a community-building initiative that brings together past, present and future Miss Nagaland winners and runners-up into a lifelong sisterhood that continues to use its collective influence, experience, and leadership to advocate for meaningful causes, serve communities, and inspire future generations across Nagaland.
This project is a community-building initiative exclusively for women who have earned the distinction of becoming Miss Nagaland titleholders or runners-up under BASN.
More than an alumni network, it is a movement that keeps these queens actively engaged in society-using their influence, visibility and leadership to champion causes, mentor future contestants and collectively advocate for issues affecting the people of Nagaland.
The vision of this initiative is to build a united community of Miss Nagaland queens who continue to inspire positive change through leadership, compassion, advocacy and service.
The Mission is to transform the Miss Nagaland title into a lifelong platform that empowers its queens to work together beyond their pageant journey, creating sustainable social impact while strengthening the sisterhood of Miss Nagaland.
This initiative will foster a lifelong network among past, present and future Miss Nagaland winners and runners-up, encourage continued community engagement beyond each queen's official year of reign, create a platform for collaborative charitable and social initiatives across Nagaland, support advocacy on pressing social issues, including health, education, women's empowerment, environmental conservation and mental health and inspire future contestants by demonstrating that the Miss Nagaland title represents responsibility as much as achievement, and also strengthen the legacy and public value of the Miss Nagaland platform.
‘Queens for a Cause’ to help people affected by landslides
Gracing the launching programme, Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA) chairman Theja Meru, lauded the BASN for launching the “Queens for a cause,” initiative for beauty queens to come together as sisters and to continue to do something great together.
Meru hoped that the beauty queens will continue to make Nagaland famous and continue to be great ambassador for Nagaland. He said that the project will make them more credible and broadens their audience space and inspire others. Meru asked them to continue to promote the youth culture and vibrancy.
BASN President Mele Pucho said “Queens for a Cause” about embracing a lifelong commitment to leadership, compassion, and service adding, through “Queens for a Cause” initiative, it brings together the past, the present and the future Miss Nagaland winners into a united community that will continue to make a meaningful difference after their reign.
This year, Pucho said, the “Queens for a Cause” project will focus on helping the people, who have been affected by landslides and floods.
Linoka Achumi, Miss Nagaland 2025 described “Queens for a Cause” project e as both timely and important. “We have been given something very powerful-visibility. And visibility, when used with purpose, can become a force for change,” Achumi said.
She said that as women, “we can use our voices to speak about issues that affect women and girls. We can encourage young women to believe in themselves, create opportunities for those who may not have them, support communities in times of need, and bring attention to causes that are often overlooked.”
Earlier, the programme was chaired by BASN General Secretary Lipokzulu while Moa Imsong, Pastor, City Church Kohima invoked God’s blessings. Virienuo Sekhose presented a special number.
