Nagaland Coffee Shop now in Kohima

Adding another feather to the booming coffee industry in Nagaland, another Nagaland Coffee Shop was inaugurated here today by Nagaland’s Land Resources Adviso,r G Ikuto Zhimomi. It is located in the main town, near Bank of Baroda, Old Taxi Stand, Kohima.

Nagaland Coffee Shop in Kohima is the extension of the similar outlet located at Circular Road, Dimapur.

“Since the day we open Nagaland Coffee Shop in Dimapur, it has been our wish that we also expand to Kohima where we can let the people of Kohima taste the flavour of Nagaland Coffee,” said Vivito Yeptho, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Nagaland Coffee.

Mentionably, Vivito Yeptho with Dr Pieter Vermeulen from Cape Town, South Africa, has started a business venture- called Nagaland Coffee Private Limited.

Yeptho maintained that coffee culture in Nagaland has grown so much since 2016. “It was possible because of the hard work and dedication of the land resources department,” Yeptho said. “They have been the backbone of revolutionising coffee culture in Nagaland,” he said and thanked the department for helping the coffee growers as well as encouraging the entrepreneurs.

 Govt to take up coffee cultivation in a huge way
G Ikuto Zhimomi informed that the government of the day is contemplating to take up coffee plantation in a huge way.

He said the land resources department has established coffee café in all the districts and termed it as a good sign.
Zhimomi said that the government of the day under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has launched the Chief Minister's Micro Finance Initiative to support the youth for self employment.

“The educated youth should become self employed and self dependent. This is the need of the hour,” he said.

There are more than 70,000 applicants remain on the live register of employment exchanges in Nagaland, the advisor said. If 5000 entrepreneurships can come up and take business venture in any sector out of 82 departments in Nagaland, then, 50,000 people can easily be employed, he felt.

“If young entrepreneurs come up in this manner, then, the question of unemployment will not be there in Nagaland,” Zhimomi said.
 
Land resources dept to support coffee business
Also speaking on the occasion, Albert Ngullie, Director, Land Resources, Nagaland said that the department has promoted coffee in Nagaland way back in 2014-15 in collaboration with Coffee Board of India.

“We are promoting coffee enterprises in different form,” he said. We will continue to train people into opening more coffee bars, processing and more plantations, he said and assured that the department will continue to support young entrepreneurs and business people who desire to enter into coffee business.

He informed that Nagaland have been invited to the forthcoming 5th World Coffee Conference in Bangalore by September this year. There are 12 coffee growing states in the country in which Nagaland is also in the map. Nagaland is the highest producer of coffee in the north eastern region.

Ngullie said that the department is on the process of short listing the entrepreneurs, progressive growers, policy makers and officials for this conference.

“We will be meeting people from about 100 coffee growing countries, global leaders, CEO of big coffee companies, buyers and policy makers from different nations,” he said. The director informed that Nagaland has about 10 lakh hectare of potential area for coffee plantation.
