A two-day capacity-building programme on cyber security and awareness on the City Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) commenced at the Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima on March 25.
The programme is being jointly organised by Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) and Kohima Police, with MMB Cyber School as the event and knowledge partner.
Chairing the inaugural session, Keneisel Tetso, Project Manager (IT), KSCDL, highlighted the importance of strengthening cyber infrastructure and enhancing awareness among stakeholders in an increasingly digital environment.
Delivering the keynote address, Senior Superintendent of Police (SP), Kohima, Krodi Rhetso underscored the growing urgency of cyber vigilance.
“Cybercrime is no longer a distant threat; it is happening around us, often more frequently than traditional crimes,” he said, adding that awareness remains the first and most effective line of defence.
Addressing a gathering comprising government officials, police personnel, representatives from banks, educational institutions and other stakeholders, he emphasised that cyber security has become a shared responsibility across all sectors.
Rhetso called for cyber security education to begin at the grassroots level—at homes, schools, workplaces and within communities.
Highlighting individual responsibility, he said every internet user today is both a potential target and a potential defender, and urged participants to act as ambassadors of cyber awareness.
Er K Theunuo, CEO, KSCDL, outlined the objectives of the programme, stating that it aims to strengthen the knowledge and preparedness of stakeholders in safeguarding critical urban infrastructure.
He said ICCCs serve as central hubs for city operations, including surveillance, traffic management, emergency response and public safety, making robust cyber security practices essential.
The programme is being conducted under the Smart City Mission of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India.
It seeks to create awareness about cyber threats, data protection and safe digital practices, while equipping officials and operators with the skills to prevent, detect and respond effectively to cyber incidents.
The inaugural session also featured a presentation on ICCC by Er Ketusezo Rote, followed by a vote of thanks by Ar Thejangulie Tsukru.
The event acknowledged the contributions of police personnel and IT professionals in strengthening surveillance, coordination and public safety systems.
Among those recognised were Kohima Police ICCC personnel HAV Thejangulie, HAV K Luntsuba Yim, Razhuvotso Rhutso, Surhokhoyi Veyie and Vikholie-o Kense.
Members of the technical team were also honoured, with Er Ketusezo Rote recognised as team lead and Er Yanpvuo Kikon as team consultant.
Other awardees included Vetalu Theyo Jamir, Metsivoyi, Keneisel Tetso, Moameren I Longkumer, Vikupu K Chophi, Imtisunep, Mhasinguto Mejura and Vekucu Thuluo for their contributions to ICCC operations.
MMB Cyber School was also felicitated for its role in promoting cyber security awareness.
Special recognition for effective utilisation of ICCC services during 2025–26 was also presented. Zhabounuo Zumu of Kohima Women Police Station was honoured for maximum utilisation among women personnel, while Viseyie Chuse, Control Operator of South Police Station, was recognised for highest usage among Kohima Police personnel.
Technical sessions during the programme included expert talks on cyber security, its societal impact and smart city cyber infrastructure by resource persons Vizotuo Sothu, Noune-ü Nancy Sophie and Tsutipang Jamir.
The programme aims to strengthen cyber security awareness and enhance the efficiency and resilience of ICCC systems in Kohima under the Smart City Mission.
