Dimapur, July 7 (MExN): The Dimapur Apex Tribal Hoho (DATH) has appealed its newly nominated councilors to set up “Selection/Election Commission” at the earliest to elect a new Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) team.
In a press release on July 7, DATH Sessional Convenor and Sessional Secretary informed that the tribal hohos met on Monday wherein it reaffirmed its earlier decision nullifying any activity conducted by the NCD after March 31. It claimed that since the term of the previous team expired on March 31, they have no ‘locus standi’ thereafter.
“Therefore any activity carried out by the old NCD office bearers and councilors are null and void,” the release stated.
It also said that all tribal hohos have submitted names of new councilors as requested by NCD in January 2020 and the newly nominated councilors are empowered to form the new team of NCD.
Further, it declared that the Selection Commission set up by “the old councilors of NCD is illegal and unconstitutional,” adding that it would not accept any action “deviating from the constitution.”
The DATH, which claims to consist of 14 tribal Hoho presidents, appealed the new councilors to carry out the election process adhering to the NCD constitution.
CAKU cautions against ‘unconstitutional practices’
The Chakhro Angami Kuda Union (CAKU) meanwhile issued a statement on Tuesday reiterating its June 27 statement to “firmly stand against any unconstitutional practices” while setting up the new NCD team for the 2020-2025 tenure.
It said that an executive meeting was held on Tuesday where it resolved that the newly nominated members for NCD councilor should “elect/select its leaders from among themselves” as the tenure for the incumbent NCD executives has ended on March 31.
