DDMA, NDRF conduct disaster drill ahead of full-scale mock exercise

Chümoukedima, February 23 (MExN): A Table Top Exercise on disaster preparedness was conducted at the DC Office Conference Hall, Chümoukedima, on February 23, as part of the Mock Exercise for 2025–26, a DIPR update informed.

The exercise was organised by the District Disaster Management Authority Chümoukedima (DDMA) in coordination with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to assess planning mechanisms, coordination procedures and decision-making processes during emergency situations.

SDO (Civil) Chümoukedima, Shreyansee Jain, IAS, who presided over the meeting, thanked the NDRF team for their presentation. She emphasised the importance of advance planning and clarity of roles among departments and urged the public to actively participate in the mock exercise.

Persist Zimik, Inspector (GD), 12th Battalion, NDRF, delivered a detailed presentation outlining the role of the force and the importance of conducting mock drills to enhance disaster preparedness. He stated that the North Eastern region and the Himalayan belt fall under Seismic Zone VI, making the area highly vulnerable to earthquakes. In this regard, he stressed the need to create public awareness and ensure preparedness to effectively respond to natural disasters.

The Table Top Exercise aimed at identifying operational gaps, strengthening coordination among stakeholders and enhancing overall readiness ahead of the full-scale mock exercise scheduled to be held on February 24, at Chümoukedima Village Ground.

Representatives from NDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, the Transport Department, Chümoukedima Village Council and civil society organisations attended the meeting.
