Dimapur, August 31 (MExN): Various student organisations and civil bodies, including the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF), the Rongmei Students' Union Dimapur (RSUD), and the Zeliangrong Welfare Association (ZWA), Delhi, have expressed profound grief and outrage over the tragic death of two school students in a road accident here on August 29.
The deceased have been identified as Gaisinlung Dhangmei, a Class XI student, and Machangbou Charenamai, a Class X student, both studying at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.
According to the RSUD, the two students were returning home after playing a futsal match when they were struck by a Mahindra Gypsy at Veterinary Colony in Burma Camp. The vehicle was allegedly driven by one Bumei Phom (25).
Expressing deep anguish and unequivocally condemning the incident, the ENSF stated that two young lives filled with promise and hope were cut short prematurely. The federation demanded that those responsible be held strictly accountable before the law and awarded befitting punishment. It emphasised that the investigation and delivery of justice must remain fair, impartial, and free from delay.
The ENSF also urged the district administration and law enforcement agencies to maintain round-the-clock vigilance rather than acting only after tragedies occur. It called for consistent checks on speeding, reckless driving, underage driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol, while urging authorities to launch sustained awareness drives to sensitise the public, especially youth, on responsible driving.
Condemning reckless and negligent driving, the RSUD noted with concern that such fatal incidents continue to recur in Dimapur. The union urged the competent authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent probe, establish the facts, and initiate stringent legal action against the perpetrator. Extending condolences to the bereaved families, teachers, and the entire school community, the RSUD reiterated its demand for prompt justice.
Meanwhile, the Zeliangrong Welfare Association (ZWA), Delhi, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of two young lives, sharing its grief with the families, classmates, and the wider Zeliangrong community while extending thoughts and prayers to the bereaved relatives.
