KOHIMA, OCTOBER 6 (MExN): Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, and Pfutsero Government College have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote academic cooperation, research, innovation, skill development and community outreach.

The MoU was signed by Dr Temjenwabang, Principal of Kohima Science College, and Dr Anungla Pongener, Principal of Pfutsero Government College, at the Conference Hall of Kohima Science College on October 5. IQAC coordinators and faculty members of both institutions were present.

The collaboration will cover interdisciplinary areas including apiculture, floriculture, computer applications, English and communication studies, and Traditional Knowledge Systems (TKS). Under the agreement, the institutions will explore joint seminars, workshops, conferences, research projects, publications, faculty exchanges, student internships, field visits, certificate courses and community outreach programmes.

Traditional Knowledge Systems have been identified as a significant area of potential collaboration, particularly in the documentation, preservation and digitisation of indigenous ecological knowledge, traditional agricultural practices, medicinal plant knowledge, floral traditions, folklore and oral history. The two colleges also plan to develop digital archives and local knowledge databases and undertake community-based participatory research. The collaboration will seek to connect scientific research with indigenous knowledge and local livelihoods through initiatives such as scientific validation of traditional agricultural and ecological practices, sustainable floriculture, pollinator-friendly farming, apiculture, biodiversity conservation and entrepreneurship.

The institutions have further agreed to facilitate mutual access to academic and technical resources, including laboratories, libraries, nurseries, gardens, ICT facilities and apiary and other field resources, subject to feasibility and availability. The MoU will remain in force for five years from the date of signing.

The institutions stated that the collaboration would strengthen interdisciplinary learning and research while creating opportunities for students and local communities in skill development, livelihood generation and sustainable development. It also aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes multidisciplinary education, research, innovation and community engagement through collaboration among educational institutions.
