New Delhi, September 9 (MExN): Nearly three months after a fire damaged Nagaland House in New Delhi, Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Y Patton, along with Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha, inspected a premises in the national capital being considered as an alternative accommodation for people from the State.
In an update on X, Patton said the inspection was undertaken as arrangements were being made in view of the situation at Nagaland House.
The facilities and their suitability were reviewed, particularly for people travelling to the national capital for medical treatment, official work and other essential purposes.
“Our priority is to ensure that our people have access to safe, convenient and comfortable accommodation in Delhi during this period,” Patton added.
As reported earlier, a fire broke out at Nagaland House, located on Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road, on June 22.
Authorities attributed the blaze to a suspected electrical short circuit in an air-conditioning unit in Room No. 2. There were no casualties or injuries, and the Delhi Fire Service brought the situation under control after being alerted.
Chief Minister’s Adviser Abu Metha had then stated in a social media update that concerned authorities and senior officers of the Nagaland State Government were assessing the extent of structural damage to the building.
Nagaland House, inaugurated in 1973 by former Chief Minister Dr Hokeshe Sema, has served as the State’s official residence and guest facility in New Delhi for over five decades.
