Nagaland Police facing critical infrastructure challenges: NPP

Kohima, September 29 (MExN): The Nagaland Police Department is facing pressing infrastructure challenges that directly impact the welfare and efficiency of its personnel, the State Unit of the National People’s Party (NPP) maintained today.

The personnel, comprising the Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) and Indian Reserve (IR) battalions, serve under demanding and often hazardous conditions to maintain law and order, yet they continue to operate in inadequate and outdated facilities in urgent need of repair and modernization, it stated.

Such deficiencies, the party said, affect not only the comfort and morale of personnel but also their overall efficiency, it added.

As per the party, accommodation and barracks emerged as a critical concern, with many personnel living in overcrowded and substandard quarters. Adequate and dignified living conditions are essential to sustain the physical and mental well-being of police officers, particularly those deployed in remote and challenging areas, it highlighted.

According to the NPP, the department’s training and operational facilities are also a key challenge, with outdated classrooms, limited tactical training grounds, and insufficient equipment restricting the capacity of personnel to respond effectively to emergencies and law and order situations.

“Reports indicate that several units face challenges in ration supply and kitchen facilities, which directly impact the health and welfare of personnel,” it alleged, adding that well-maintained mess facilities with consistent access to quality rations are critical for sustaining morale and operational efficiency.

The NPP cautioned that these deficiencies collectively reduce motivation, compromise operational readiness, make retention of trained personnel difficult, and ultimately affect public safety.

To address these challenges, the party recommended a comprehensive infrastructure audit, adequate and dedicated funding, timely execution of projects, integration of modern technology, and welfare-oriented improvements.

Accordingly, the NPP Nagaland called upon the State Government to give the highest priority to this issue, taking decisive steps to improve infrastructure, strengthen personnel welfare, and modernize facilities. By doing so, Nagaland can ensure a professional, motivated, and well-equipped police force capable of addressing the challenges of today and tomorrow, safeguarding both the personnel and the people of the State, it added.
