PM, Nagaland CM pay tribute to Dy CM’s son

Dimapur, October 10 (MExN): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio among several others on Saturday expressed deep grief over the untimely demise of Kuchi Rangkau Zeliang, elder son of Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister T R Zeliang, who passed away on October 9 due to cardiac arrest. 

He was a young entrepreneur and social worker.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he was “pained by the untimely passing” of Kuchi Rangkau Zeliang. “My thoughts are with the Zeliang family and their friends in this hour of grief. May the departed soul rest in peace,” he said.

Chief Minister Dr Rio, in his condolence message, said he was “deeply shocked and heartbroken” by the sudden and tragic loss. Describing Kuchi as “like a son to me,” he said the deceased was a childhood friend of his son, making the passing a “deeply personal loss” to him and his family.

Kuchi was known for his humility, kindness, compassion and selfless service, and was a good friend to many across all ages, the CM said. He was Advisor to the Nagaland Pickleball Association and founder and chairman of Barack Football Club, reflecting his commitment to nurturing young talent and creating opportunities for the youth through sports.

“With his passing, we have lost a promising young leader. His contributions, compassion, and dedication to the welfare of others will be remembered, and his absence will be deeply felt,” Dr Rio said.

The CM, along with his wife and family, extended heartfelt condolences to TR Zeliang and the bereaved family, especially Kuchi's wife and daughter, praying for strength and courage to endure the irreparable loss.

Kuchi Rangkau Zeliang is survived by his wife and daughter. The funeral was held on October 10.
