Bringing cheers to badminton clubs/players in Kohima, the badminton court and stadium renovation works has been completed and inaugurated this evening at Badminton Indoor Stadium, Officers’ Hill Kohima.
It was formally inaugurated by Nagaland Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Neiba Kronu.
Speaking on the occasion, Kronu said that Nagaland’s chief minister Neiphiu Rio, who is also president of Nagaland Olympic Association has been trying his best to promote sports in the state.
He informed that the state government has been trying its best to build sports infrastructure under special infrastructure programme across the state.
It is time to pull our socks and catch with the rest of the world, he said.
The minister also extended best wishes to the badminton players to represent the state at the national and international level.
Nagaland’s youth resources and sports secretary Wezope Kenye also spoke at the programme and thanked Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and minister Neiba Kronu for allocating fund towards renovation works of Badminton Indoor stadium in Kohima.
Better and brighter lighting facilities installed
In construction committee report, N Wati thanked Neiba Kronu for allocating Rs 50 lakh and also the Youth Resources & Sports Department led by advisor Er Zale Neikha, YRS secretary, YRS director and all the department officials for allocating the renovation work.
Since the flooring was in a very bad condition, we procured world class flooring approved by BWF from Taufik International Professional Sports Flooring, said Wati.
He informed that better and brighter lighting facilities have been installed.
The renovation works included; installation of bathrooms with new fixtures, VIP bathroom, painting of the whole stadium, construction of new stage, rain protection entrance at the frontside, Rain water harvesting facility with storage capacity of about 16000 litres and repair of roof leakages.
Wati thanked the department officials and all the clubs of the stadium “for helping us to complete the renovation work successfully.”
Earlier, Er Sabu Yashu, Vice President, Kohima District Badminton Association delivered welcome speech while Alemtoshi ex- deacon KABA invoked God’s blessing.
Henceforth, the rules and regulations for proper utilization and maintenance of Kohima badminton indoor stadium will be framed by KDBA and notify soon, said Er Yashu.
The programme was chaired by KDBA Information & Publicity Secretary Er Medozhazo Rutsa.
Later, the duo Neiba Kronu and Kesonyu Yhome, president Nagaland Badminton Association played an exhibition match with Kohima Deputy Commissioner, Shanavas C and KDBA President, Kevithuto Sophie.
