BARKWEAVER DAYS: Book readings mark day 2

Morung Express News Kohima | July 1   The rain added charm to the author readings on Saturday evening as Toinali Sema read from her book, “Sümi and the Dance of the Dark Spirits” at Ozone Café, ideally located in the heart of Kohima town. Taking part in the day two of the 3-day Barkweaver Days, the author from Dimapur said the book was inspired by a Sema folktale. “Taking that as a base, I weaved a fantasy around it”, she enlightened.   Highlighting more about the book, she said it is about one boy and two girls who go on an adventure journey to find a soul missing from a person’s body and in the course of their journey encounter different mysterious creatures. “Sümi and the Dance of the Dark Spirits” is published by the Manipal University Press in May, 2017. Toinali Sema said she found it encouraging to see more youngsters interested in reading. She is currently pursuing Ph.D from Nagaland University.   9-year old author, Suiyikai Ndang who wrote “My Birthday Adventure” was also present to sign his books for excited children and adults alike.   Barkweaver Days is also featuring the artworks of Grace Savino. Themed as “Joy comes in the morning”, the artworks have been put up both for exhibition and sale. Her works were earlier exhibited at Windfall in Dimapur last year. Grace Savino likes to do flowers and nature and these elements are prominent in her works.   Apart from Barkweaver Books, Gutouch and 1052 Store are part of the highlights at the ongoing event. Easterine Kire commented that the response has been very good and stated happiness to have 3 writers from Dimapur participating in it. She also added that Ozone Café is not only placed in an ideal location but is also accessible and friendly, which makes the event even more engaging. Mention may be made here that Monday, July 3, 2017 will be the last day of the Barkweaver Days and will also feature Avinuo Kire.
