Kohima DPDB- walking the extra mile

Ketoho Luho

Assistant Development Commissioner & Member Secretary DPDB Kohima

Besides, the normal monthly meetings, the members of the Kohima DPDB have been taking up various innovative programs including Village Adoption program. The Board grouped the members into 6 Committees, one for each Assembly Constituency consisting of 10 members with one member as Convener and the concerned MLA as Advisor. The selections of these villages were made based on the level of development specially those who are still yet to catch up with other developed villages. The DPDB does not provide fund for taking up of any major scheme except providing the fund for meeting the minimum expenditure like fuel and refreshments from Common Pool of LADP. Thus, the Board has covered around 30 Villages/Wards till date. Each Committee has a different program of its own depending on the needs of the Adopted Villages. One year period is given to each Committee where the Committee are made to explore ways and means and implement them at their own convenient time. On completion of the program, the Committee are to submit their final reports to the Core Committee to assess the performance of the Committees where the best two teams are awarded with cash and certificates at the end of the year in the presence of the Hon’ble Elected Members   `This popular program of the district attracted the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India and was included in the “Book of The New Beginning” on Innovations for the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence together with “Fostering Excellence for initiatives under identified Priority Programs which was released by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on the Civil Services Day 21st April 2017.

Besides, shouldering the departmental duties and responsibilities of their respective departments, the members of the Committee come together and explore ways and means to lift the living standard of the village, be in the area of economy, education, health, sanitation and other smaller infrastructural developments. The Board felt that though the Committee has not contributed substantially, the impact created are applauded by the stakeholders. The supports from the concerned elected members in terms of financial, encouragement are also commendable. This is to mention that this Adoption Program is not a directive from any authority but purely an initiation of the DPDB Kohima. Different Committees conduct their own programs as per their schedules and come back to highlight their status report in the normal DPDB meeting, making the Board more lively and meaningful. It is observed that, the members do not walk this extra mile to attract applause nor take it as a burden but to show their concern of their district where they are posted.
