Liquor worth Rs 27 lakh destructed

Morung Express News Dimapur | May 13   Department of Excise & Prohibition on Friday destructed seized liquor worth Rs 27, 18, 000 at market value in the presence of Dimapur district administration, police, Dimapur Municipal Council and Church representatives at its Directorate premises, Dimapur.  

Presenting a brief report of the seizure, Superintendent of Excise, Chotingse Sangtam said articles including Rum, Whisky, Beer, Wine, Breezer, Vodka, Gin and Yeast were seized during the period October 2015 to April 2016 and the fine realized out of the seizure was Rs 18, 24, 000.   During the programme, DC Excise, Lanuwati Jamir disclosed that during the last three years, a total of 5. 70 lakh bottles of liquor were destructed, the market value of which came to Rs 15. 50 crore.   He said that the Department was short of man power but was still trying its best to man the entire state with just 321 staff including field staff and officers. He reminded that the state government has on many occasions turned down its demand for post creation citing lack of revenue generated from the Department. Lanuwati said that the Department had earned a revenue of Rs 14.70 crore during the last three years.   Additional Commissioner, Excise, Pitongse Sangtam also spoke during the programme and encouraged the Departmental staff to continue working sincerely in the interest of the people.
