NWA announces 12th Open Naga wrestling meet 2019

The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) today announced that the 12th Open Naga Wrestling meet 2019 will take place on March 7 at Kohima.


The total prize money has been enhanced to Rs. 6.10 lakh.


NWA president Neivikuolie Khatsu told the press conference that that the prize money for the champion has been enhanced to Rs. 2 lakh from Rs. 1.50 lakh.


It also enhanced prize money for 2nd place to Rs. 1.50 lakh from Rs. 1 lakh, third place to Rs. 1 lakh from Rs. 70,000 and 4th place at Rs. 70,000 from Rs. 50,000.


Quarter finalists will get Rs. 10,000 each while pre-quarter finalists will receive Rs. 5000 each.


NWA also set a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 for best tactic.


The meet will be hosted by Angami Sports Association.


The wrestlers/participants have been informed to contact their respective wrestling associations or NWA, for which the NWA will issue registration form soon.


Last date for submission of registration form is yet to be finalized. Yet, it will be opened till the ending part of February 2019.


US wrestler to join

NWA general secretary Vekhozo informed that Rung Lian Ceu from USA have been confirmed to participate in this forthcoming 12th Open Naga wrestling meet.


Ceu, a reigning US & Myanmar Wrestling Champion, will come along with Ang Cung, chairman Chin World Wrestling, US and Henry.


They are expected to reach the state before March 5, stated Vekhozo.


NWA will have interactive session with USA Wrestling Association during their visit to discuss “our future plans as to how we can develop wrestling among ourselves and in international arena so as to make it an Olympic event,” Vekhozo added.


The Association is also expecting participants from Delhi, Maharashtra and Jharkhand.


Further, two officials from All India Traditional Wrestling & Pankration Federation (AITWPF) will also witness the meet.


Naga wrestlers to participate at International Ethno Festival

Announcing the upcoming events of NWA for the year 2019, Khatsu informed that two Naga wrestlers Vechita Khesoh and Keduovilie Zumu will be participating at the forthcoming International Ethno Festival 2019 (Belt Wrestling) on invitation in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from March 9 to 19.


Five boys and four girls along with NWA officials will also be taking part at the forthcoming 38th Boys Free Style & 22nd Girls Sub Junior (Cadet) National Wrestling Championship 2019 by February 17 to 20.


Khatsu also announced that the Ist state level belt wrestling championship 2019 will take place in the month of October.


Among the many other events include; wrestling referee clinic camp by October- November, 13th Hornbill International Naga Style Wrestling 2019 by December 4 etc etc.
