Dimapur, October 9 (MExN): The Pochury Gazetted Officers’ Forum (PGOF) held its 14th Biennial General Conference at Tourist Lodge, Dimapur on October 8 with Lhoubeilatuo Kire IFS, Additional Chief Secretary to CM, DUDA, Tribal Affairs, Environment, Forest & Climate Change as Special Invitee.


A release from the PGOF informed that Lhoubeilatuo Kire appealed for the need to protect and preserve our fragile environment and suggested that people should avoid going after short term benefits but encourage the practice of long term sustainability. 


Kire made reference to the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) and pointed out that it was a design to ascertain the indigenous status of the people and to ensure that the rights and properties of the indigenous people are fully protected and to prepare a sustainable way of life for the younger generations. He made it clear that the RIIN exercise was not against any bonafide Indian citizen since their due rights will be fully protected.
Kire also called upon the stakeholders for due diligence and urged the members to play proactive roles in the issues facing the society at large. 


The speaker ended by exhorting that it is not in the numbers, but the quality in the limited numbers that will propel the Forum to greater heights and wished the community to be initiators in the government machinery and other fields as well.


Earlier, in his presidential address, Er Chirhotho Rasutho, President PGOF welcomed all present and thanked the Special Invitee for courteously consenting to the Forum’s request to grace the occasion. He stated that the PGOF started humbly with few visionary members numbering 23 in the year 1996 and has reached a considerable strength of 126 members as per the latest report. He also read out the Forum’s visions and objectives and called upon all the members to rededicate themselves to the motto “To serve with dignity”.


The new office bearers for the tenure (2019-21) will be led by Rhovisie Nyuwi as President, Ar. Tarachu Pfithu as Vice President, Er Chura Katiry as General Secretary, Khuza Jurry as Joint Secretary, Er Jackson Ngouri as Info & Publicity Secretary, Nguvisie Nyusou as Finance Secretary and Lisütho Phoji as Treasurer.


The programme was led by Chüratho Katiry, Vice President, PGOF; Fr John Latsütho Poji, Vice Principal & Administrator, North East Institute of Social Sciences & Research Dimapur said the invocation; Short speech was delivered by Zhitho Nyuthe, President, Pochury Hoho Dimapur; Guoro Pojar presented two beautiful special songs; vote of thanks was said by Nyuvitho Nyuthe, General Secretary PGOF, and the Benediction was pronounced by Rev. Hopejoy Sharu, Pastor, Pochury Baptist Church, Chümoukedima.
