Sustainable organic plant protection practices

Mokokchung, June 25 (MExN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Kobulong block, Mokokchung organized training on Sustainable Organic Plant Protection Practices at Mopungchuket village on June 23.  

Resource person Dr. Lanunochetla, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) from the District Agriculture department sensitized the farmers on the ban of DTT and Gammahexane and explained their harmful residual effects on human health due to their use in agricultural practices.  

The farmers were encouraged and trained on the use of locally available plants and weeds, kaolin clay and cow urine as organic insecticides for sustainable management, informed a press release from Dr. Aoyimsen Jamir, Convener, BTT, ATMA Kobulong Block, Mokokchung. Package of practices on soya bean was also imparted to the farmers during the training programme.  

Free Knapsack spray, roban, agri lime, organic fertilizers and soya seeds from the Agriculture department and Neem oil provided by the Horticulture department, Mokokchung were distributed to the farmers, for immediate control of plant pests and rodents, the release added.
