Thungti Chang, Sanüzolü Nakro win Kalos Peace Marathon

Our Correspondent Pfutsero | September 24   The 2nd Kalos Peace Marathon (Men 21 km & Women 15 km) took place here today under the aegis of Kalos in collaboration with the 9th Assam Rifles under the theme “Run for peace and unity.”   Altogether, 251 participants from 29 villages under Phek district including seven tribes from different parts of Nagaland including nine states of India joined the event. In the men’s category, Thungti Chang, Chikong Chang both from the 3rd NAP Tuensang and Tsole Yhokha from Kigwema village, Kohima district finished first, second and third, respectively and awarded Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7000 and Rs. 5000, respectively, as cash prize. The trio completed the 21 km run in 1 hour 25 minutes, 1 hour 29 minutes and 1hour 30 minutes, respectively.   In the women’s category, Sanüzolü Nakro, Neilhiwe-ü Mero, Weche-ü Lasushe finished first, second and third and awarded Rs. 8000, Rs. 6000 and Rs. 4000, respectively. The top three winners completed the stipulated 15 km run in 1 hour 19 minutes, 1 hour 21 minutes and 1hour 25 minutes, respectively Earlier, Col. Rajat Tyagi, commandant 9th Assam Rifles flagged off the men’s race at Chida Post junction, while the women’s race was flagged off by Ketshengupe Losou at Lasumi marketing shed.   Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) president Welete Kapfo, PTCWF president Murhasayi Murao and Chongtham Satyaranjan, 2nd-in-command, chief medical officer, 9th Assam Rifles spoke at the prize distribution ceremony. Maj. Rahul, post commander D Coy, 9th AR, Pfutsero was also present among other dignitaries.
