Union Minister stresses on skilling North East

Newmai News Network Shillong | December 9   Adding skill sets to the people of Meghalaya in particular and the North East Region in general has been stressed by Union Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan.   Speaking at the function for signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Skills Development Commission and Assam Rifles here at HQ DGAR, Laitkor, Pradhan highlighted the fact that retired Assam Rifles personnel are a pool of highly disciplined and skilled individuals.   “It is important to tap this resource,” he said.   The MoU will pave the way for retiring Assam Rifles personnel towards a second career based on prior learning and experience. Approximately 1200 personnel who retire annually from Assam Rifles stand to gain from the MoU.   The signing of the MoU was held in the presence of Director General Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Shokin Chauhan besides senior officials from Assam Rifles, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and NSDC.   The Union Minister also promised to set up a mechanism to improve the supply of fuel and petroleum products to meet the needs of the force which is deployed in far flung corners of North East.   Pradhan also laid a wreath at the Assam Rifles War Memorial and paid homage to the martyrs.
