The Dimapur Night Carnival 2017 kicked off Monday evening at the Naga Shopping Arcade (Super Market). Advisor, Urban Development SI Jamir inaugurated the carnival, which is being jointly organised by the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Business Association of Nagas, East Dimapur Business Association and the Dimapur district administration. It started as a 5-day event in 2013 but this year it has been extended to 7 days. Besides being a source of healthy family entertainment during the festive season, the basic idea of the Carnival is to promote local entrepreneurs as well as cottage industry.

While the unseasonal rain delayed preparations and the expected start, it was not enough to dampen the spirit of the organisers and entrepreneurs, who braved the drizzle and the chill to set up the venue. Over 200 entrepreneurs have set a variety of stalls keeping up with the festive mood for visitors.

As an incentive, the practice of picking and awarding the allottee with the best stall will continue this year too. The winner of the best stall award will automatically get a stall in the next edition.

SI Jamir while delivering the inaugural address said that the Carnival, in line with the concept of promoting entrepreneurship, is a great platform for youngsters, who are trying to build a life. According to him, “Opportunities are there but without initiative we can hardly achieve.” He said that the time has come “venture out” with faith in one’s ability. “The future is yours, the only thing required is your devotion and a desire to achieve.” As a public leader, he said that anything that happens in Dimapur impacts him, adding, “If Dimapur prospers, I also prosper. If it faces problems, it touches me too.”

The inaugural programme was peppered with upcoming local artistes entertaining the crowd, who turned up despite rainy weather.
