Desist in toto from using violent language:  FNR make open call to signatories of CoR

DIMAPUR, JUNE 29 (MExN): The Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) on Thursday made an open call to the signatories of the Covenant of Reconciliation (CoR) to reaffirm the September 14, 2022 joint accordant to “refrain from all forms of rhetoric, assumptions, and agendas that are divisive.”

Asserting its moral authority, the FNR called upon all Naga political groups, any individual or group to desist, in toto, from using violent or extremist language defaming and undermining our shared humanity.

It recalled that Tuesday, June 13, 2023, marked the 14th year of the signing of the CoR, which helped cease violence amongst “different” Naga political groups. Since June 13, 2009, the signatories have revalidated the CoR on five different occasions. The most recent one was signed on September 14, 2022, at Sovima, resolving, “…to refrain from all forms of rhetoric, assumptions, and agendas that are divisive. Such a culture must end immediately.”

The FNR said the above resolve emerged from common convictions that rise above a group’s political purity and self justification. It therefore stressed on the need to cultivate and activate what was affirmed on September 14, 2022, and supported by all Naga apex organizations, the Church and the State Government.

More significantly, the FNR said the NNPGs and the NSCN agreement of January 14, 2023 presents the way forward and therefore cannot be misused, compromised or erased at the hands of any individuals or groups.  It also put up a reminder that that “one cannot supersede the law of the divine,” in whose name we have signed the CoR.
