K Station is now horticulture model village

MLA Jwenga Seb today launched K. Station in Tseminyu district as horticulture model village for banana farming. Speaking on the occasion, Seb was optimistic the concept of horticulture model village will bring prosperity and sustainable future. He called upon the villagers to be committed and put united efforts to translate the target of the model village into a reality.

Stating that economic sovereignty is the need of the hour, he urged upon the farmers to work hard for surplus production and food security.

Further, Seb stressed on the need to adopt modern technology to enhance the production.    

Tseminyu District Horticulture Officer (DHO) Neisetuonuo Debbie said that horticulture model village for K. Station was undertaken under the scheme of Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture for the year 2023-2024.

She said the concept of developing horticulture model village in every district has been taken up to strengthen villages for an overall perspective and to boost the horticulture development activities in a holistic manner.

She said that the horticulture model village approach is to develop “One Village One Crop” as a model for self sufficiency and sustainability which will support the livelihood of both the rural and urban population of the state.

“Such model villages will ensure food security and ultimately emerge as models of self sufficiency, social and economic well being,” she said.

She maintained that model villages can serve as replica to be followed by other villages throughout the state. 

In the model village, she said the village community will adopt modern technology to bring efficiency in horticulture products and enhance economic opportunities.

The main objective of horticulture model village is to encourage farmers for intensive crop cultivation by adopting innovative and modern technologies, to increase production & productivity and marketing related activities.

It also aim to aggregate farmer produces in the model village, to carry out primary post harvest operations of the harvested produces, empower communities, villages to be responsible for their development destiny and to improve socio-economic status of the farmers.

Tseminyu Deputy Commissioner, Rohit Singh also spoke on the occasion. Joel Kath also delivered short speech. The programme was chaired by Kenneth Kath while K. Station village council chairman Nentilo Kath delivered welcome address. Vote of thanks was proposed by Mutiya Wanth while Sansiya Apon, pastor KSBC pronounced thanksgiving prayer.
