Women SHGs in Khonoma distribute over 140 bags of organic local vegetables in Kohima

On the early morning of April 22, Women Self Help Groups from Khonoma village sent over 140 bags of organic local vegetables to Kohima to be distributed free of cost to its citizens.


The vegetables distribution was initiated by 20 Self Help Groups (SHGs) divided into two Village Level Organisations (VLOs) under Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM).

 

Through community participation, the vegetables were sourced to be distributed to senior citizens, widows and widowers of Khonoma Village dwelling in Kohima.

 

However, the distribution of vegetables were extended to frontline workers -  Medical fraternity, Traffic and police personnel, Kohima Municipal Council and the District Administration, Kohima. 


With the support of the Khonoma Rüffüno Kohima and Green Team Kohima (GTK), the vegetables were also distributed at various Hospitals in Kohima such as Naga Hospital Authority Kohima, Oking Hospital, KP Bethesda Hospital and Bethel Hospital. 


Acknowledging the voluntary initiative, the Khonoma Rüffüno Kohima remarked that the initiative taken up amid the nationwide lockdown in order to reach out to people is an exemplary of community participation.
