Mokokchung, October 10 (MExN): The Department of Soil and Water Conservation (S&WC), Mokokchung has distributed Soil Health Cards (SHC) and Micronutrients to the farming community of various villages under Mokokchung district under SHC scheme of RKVY of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare, GoI. 

The distribution programmes were held at Ungma village, Mekuli village and Sungratü village on October 6, 7 and 9 respectively. During this period, the soil samples were collected from the farmer’s field and tested to determine the fertility status of the soil and accordingly the nutrient requirement in the form of micronutrients was distributed. “Testing report revealed that most of the soils are deficient in micronutrients and that, it has become imperative to ameliorate them in order to optimize agriculture crop production,” Ruokuosietuo Dzuvichu, District Soil Conservation Officer, Mokokchung stated in a press release. 

So far, the district has distributed 2092 SHC and Micronutrients to nine villages during 2020-21, another nine villages with 1800 SHC and micronutrients during 2022-23 and it envisages distribution of SHC and Micronutrients to nine villages during 2023-24 covering a total of 27 villages under the district. 

The recommended doses for micronutrients application as prescribed is one table spoon full of micronutrient in one liter of water that can be applied as soil drenching, drip irrigation or foliar spray at every 15 days interval. The micronutrients are organic in nature comprising Boron, Manganese, Iron, Copper, Zinc & Molybdenum.
