NSCN (IM) sends reconciliation feelers to rival

DIMAPUR, NOV 28 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) today asked its rival faction to respond through the media “without negativism for appreciation, to prove and gain your obligated respect in your sacrifices for our nation building to overcome all undesired hurdles and explore means for amicable expedition of respected understanding and reconciliation with unification.” A release issued by the MIP of the NSCN (IM) asked the Khaplang faction to not resort to the shortcomings of circumstances as well as mistakes committed by individuals but rather with an optimistic attitude rationally approach and resolve all differences “which will ultimately be beneficial for each and every one of us Nagas and for our future generations.”

Proposing a suggestion, the release said, “Why don’t we explore means of resolution rather than defaming one another or justifying one’s deed and further aggravate bloody terror in our country and divide/ sow incite favoritism, divisionism, tribalism, politicization, personalization and cultivate jingoistic traits.” While noting that war crimes as ancient as those committed during the Second World War were still being investigated and that those guilty were being tried, the MIP forewarned, “Nagas be aware that a time will come when the crimes committed today will not go forgotten but will have to face a court of law.”

While saying that the details of the ‘sad history’ of the Nagas was better left buried, the release maintained that since it is not possible to correct the past, something for the betterment of the future was what everybody is capable of doing. While talking of a nexus previously enjoyed between the NSCN (K) and security forces, the NSCN (IM) rationalized that there was no space for accusations and allegations “but to forgive and reconcile and embrace each other.” Further, an earnest desire to “rectify, resolve, reform, reconcile and unify” has been put on focus as the “sole need of the hour.”

Clarifying on the repeated claims made by NSCN (K) leader Mulatonu that the NSCN (IM) was having sinister relations with the Al-Qaeda; the outfit asked him to bring forward authentic evidences as alleged. “According to your constant mention of Al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations, it seems that it portrays your acquaintances with these organizations,” the release said.

The NSCN (K) has also been said of conniving with Manipur underground elements in terrorizing Naga villages. However, the release repeatedly hints on the subjects of ‘forgiveness’ and ‘reconciliation.’
