Longleng, September 17 (MExN): The Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA) under the aegis of Nagaland Baptist Churches Council (NBCC) reiterated the pledge for ‘One Person, One Vote’ as part of the Clean Election Movement which was launched in Longleng on September 16.

Longleng District Clean Election Committee (LDCEC) PBCA Mission Centre in a press release stated that during the occasion, the main speaker, Rev L Anjo Keikung spoke on the theme ‘My Vote, My Future’ while PBCA, Executive Secretary, N Tialemba Phom released the clean election guide book. 

According to the guide book, the purpose of Clean Election Movement is not directed against any particular political party or individual, but its aim and objective is to see that Godly and truthful leader is elected in order to bring changes to our land. It is God’s mission, and it stands for a positive change and truth alone.

The guide book also mentions not to sell vote but ‘cast vote prayerfully and secretly; conduct free & fair election.’ There shall be no movement and use of undemocratic methods by means of force/muscle to capture polling booths from place to place. Indulging in distribution of cash and intoxicated substances by candidates and election agents in order to win election is prohibited, as this kind of practice is totally against the principles of Clean Election and the election Model of Code of Conduct. As per the principle of clean election, holding of party rally, party youth camp, display of party flag and party pamphlet/sticker shall not be allowed within the district, other than Clean Election flag, pamphlet and stickers. 

It also directs that no  village council, khel, colony or clan shall be allowed to carry out the unfair practice by some openly declaring wholesale support in favour of a particular candidate and ostracising bonafide citizens for exercising right to vote democratically. No Church leaders, Civil Society and NGO leaders shall participate in electioneering means of compassing and rendering public speech in support of a political party or candidates.  Instead, they are to actively participate in the clean election movement in its entirety.

All the Chairman and members of village council, Head barick, head Gaonbura, Gaonburas, VDB Secretary, office-bearers of Citizen and leaders of Students’ Union shall robustly take part in the Clean Election Movement without fear.

No one should put his/her hand in election money. Except for those on election duty, no Government servants/employees shall take part in electioneering in any manner.

Movement of Naga national workers/group in plain or outfit uniform in support of any political party and demanding of money from candidates shall not be allowed. 

“Church is a divine institution. Conduct of any program related to political party or making of announcement on party politics inside the church shall not be allowed in order to preserve its sanctity. Clean Election, biblically means truthful and holy election. Therefore, every believer of Jesus Christ shall obligate themselves to take part in this campaign without committing a slightest mistake. (Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord) (Psalm 33:12),” it quoted.

During the programme, keynote address was delivered by Rev H Be-au, Convener (CEM), M Shayung Phom, Deputy Commissioner, Longleng. Others who spoke were presidents from PBCA, PPC, PH, PSC and Assistant Election Officer, Longleng.
